Muthamizh Vizha 14 – Revisited

GCT

GCT is a place where academics and extracurricular activities goes hand in hand .Among the various cultural events conducted, one of the most prestigious event held is the Muthamizh Vizha . This year too, there were numerous events in Muthamizh Vizha ’14   to bring out the latent talents of students in a fun way .

Student Journalist Council (SJC), spoke with various participants, organizers and judges to share their thoughts on the events, and this is what they had to say.

Kavithanjali

This was an event which was held primarily for wannabe poets among the students who were ready to fire their thoughts in the form of poems The time limit for event was 30 minutes. The participants were asked to write a full poem and a hykoo on the given topics. The number of participants who  attended this event has increased manifold over the years.

About 30 students from various colleges such as UIT, KCT, SNR Sons, Bharathiyar  UNIVERSITY, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Kongunadu College of Arts and Science  and 9 students from GCT took part in this event.

A student from Kongunadu Arts and Science college said “I am really impressed with the reception of GCT and this was really a wonderful experience. Program timings were a little bit disappointing. But GCT was really a nice place to show our skills.”

Two girls from Sri Krishna college of Arts and Science said “This is the first time we have come to GCT. We really like the college atmosphere and the topics were quite interesting and  thoughtful.”

Sirithanuna

Another event which was completely different from the events other events was  “Sirithanuna” which was nothing but the GCT version of “Kalakka Povathu Yaaru”. This event was really  challenging  for the participants, as they had to tickle the funny bones of audience with their wit and Humour. The time limit was  5 minutes, and within that the participants demonstrated their humorous skills in an amazing manner. This event was attended by nearly 7 teams with each team containing 2 to 3 members

The students from SNR sons college represented 3 teams and they said “We visit GCT  every year for Muthamizh Vizha. We are always addicted to GCT’s enthusiastic atmosphere and we face a good competition here. If the event is held for two days it would be  better as we would have a considerable time for preparation.”

Oru Porul Panmozhi

This was the event which was constructed to amaze the audience with the mono acting skills of the participants. The participants took the stage on storm and made the audience and judge to catch hold of their breath. Almost 8 teams from various colleges  took part in this event. A second year student from CIT said “I am on my first visit to GCT and I am really in love with the ambience of the of the institution. I feel the topics are quite tough but it is needed for a healthy competition.”

A third year student from GCT said “This is my second time to this event and I am a bit surprised that the participants number is less when compared to last year for this event and the competition is not too tough .I hope that more students participate in Mono Acting in the coming years, and maybe the student newsletter can come in aid.  ”

Pandiyan Parisu

This treasure hunt event was split into two rounds like most of the other events. The first round was filled with nearly 27 teams from various institutions with two members in each team. Some participants felt that the questions were tricky. While some felt that, It also paved way for logical thinking. The organizers had a tough time organizing the crowd.

Thenmadhurai Thazmizh Osai

‘Thenmadhurai Thamizh Osai’,  or simply can be called as the Tamil quiz. The questions were based on Tamil literature, history and habitats of ancient Tamilians. This competition had two rounds. The first round was a written preliminary round from which six teams were selected for the successive rounds which contained questions from Tamil poetry, Tamilian architecture and Thirukural. Many of the participants felt that the questions were too tough and of high standard while the others felt that it was very easy for them. Overall the participants felt that ,it was a very good experience and opportunity to build up their knowledge on Tamil.

Ponniyan Selvan

‘Ponniyin Selvan’, or the cinema quiz, proved to be the culmination of Isai Tamizh, Naadaga Tamizh and Iyatramizh. The first round for the participants was a written preliminary followed by a final  round which covered questions from the various periods of cinema industry. A large crowd keenly participated in this event since the students are naturally aware and interested in this field.

Inniyavai Kooral

This event, in the name of ‘Inniyavai kooral’ was about speaking out positive thoughts. The first round was an extempore round. The selected students progressed to the second round in which they had to speak. a particular Adhigaram in  Thirukural. They had to explain and speak the good thoughts delivered by any one of  the kurals under the specified Adhigaram. The selected students had the final round which was again an extempore. The students were very excited to participate in this event because one can share his/her thoughts in the event.

Moovarula

The participants found this event very interesting because it represents a fun game called “dumb- charade”. There were  3 students per team, the first round had students guessing the name of movies and songs. The second round had them guessing proverbs. The third round was quirkly named  “cricket dumb-charade” in which one should express the given clue or word through actions and the other two should find the answer simultaneously by taking the runs! The participants felt that they found it difficult as well as amusing.
